Bandar Seri Begawan - ST ANDREW'S School emerged victorious against Pengiran Anak Puteri (PAP) Hjh Masna Secondary School in the 5th National Junior English Debate Competition yesterday.

St Andrew's was the opposition for the motion: "The Improvement of the Current Public Transport System is More Beneficial than the Implementation of the Proposed LRT".

They focused on the long-term benefits of the LRT system such as being able to use electricity from solar power instead of using oil or gas, and being able to better cope with an increasing population then the buses.

PAP Hjh Masna Secondary school, who acted as the proposer for the motion, focused their points on improving the existing bus system, quoting examples from Jakarta, Indonesia and Brisbane, Australia that deploy successful modern bus systems that could be adopted. The finals marked the end of the competition that began since early August and was held at the Ministry of Finance Building.

The winning team from St Andrew's: Patricia Chong, Issac Yee and Koay Jing Wei, their other teammates and teachers were esctatic at the victory.

Manik Jalihal, St Andrew's English teacher said that the victory was an amazing triumph for her, the students and the school. None of the students have ever participated in a formal competition prior to this event.

Chong also won the best speaker for the competition.

The third place was shared between Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School and Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School.

Debate Semi Finals result

Alhamdulillah and Congratulations to the SMSBT debate team, Sera Fina Vincent , Amelia Stewart , Eyra Ahamed , Farah Romeo ,Mizah Hamdan and me myself for managing to win the THIRD place during the semi finals and for doing our best. We were voted 1-2 against st Andrews to proceed to the finals, we may not be able to proceed to finals but we gave our best shot and managed to be at the TOP THREE :)

and thank you for the support from the school , our classmates, colleagues, friends from different classes and especially teachers whom each of them has given ENDLESS supports :'D ♥
